About

We’re thrilled to introduce Sculptra to our esteemed patients! As we reach around 20 years old, our collagen production begins to decline at a rate of about 1% per year. By age 45, we’ve typically lost around 25% of our collagen. Sculptra is an injectable designed to stimulate collagen regeneration, helping to combat this natural loss.

Sculptra enhances skin quality and restores lost facial volume due to aging, weight loss, or illness. It works by promoting long-term collagen production using Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible synthetic substance that boosts collagen formation and works deep within the skin to rebuild its structure. Unlike hyaluronic acid-based fillers, Sculptra activates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for creating new collagen.

Sculptra is applied to the framework of the face, from the temples to the chin, but should not be used around the lips or eyes. Typically, three injection sessions spread over several months are recommended based on individual collagen loss, followed by an annual maintenance treatment. Collagen production continues for several weeks, resulting in natural-looking improvements in skin texture, tone, and volume. What to Expect

On the day of your procedure, while you’re being prepared, we’ll guide you through the treatment as we discussed during your consultation, so you’ll know exactly what to expect. We’ll start by cleansing the areas of your skin where the treatment will be applied and then use a numbing agent or topical anesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable and pain-free.

How it Works

Sculptra Aesthetic works subtly and gradually over time within the deep, dermis layer of the skin, correcting shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds such as smile lines for a more youthful looking appearance. Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, which work immediately upon injection to fill in lines, wrinkles and folds, Sculptra Aesthetic is made from Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which helps stimulate your skin’s own natural collagen production over time, helping to reinforce skin’s inner structure and increase facial volume that has been lost to aging. The typical treatment regimen for Sculptra Aesthetic varies depending on age, volume loss, aesthetic goal and treatment plan recommended by your aesthetic provider. Results appear gradually over a period of a few months, and are long-lasting, more than two years.

How to Prepare

  • For 3-5 days before treatment, avoid blood thinners like NSAIDs (including Advil, aspirin, and Aleve), alcohol and fish oils. Any blood thinning medication can increase the chance of bruising. If you need to take an over-the-counter pain reliever, take Tylenol instead.
  • The average length of the cosmetic injections of Sculptra is about 60 minutes per session depending on the individual, goal of treatment, and the number of areas being treated.
  • Please reschedule if you have any skin issues near the treatment area.
