About

Lumecca is an advanced intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy system used for various skin treatments, including the correction of pigmentation irregularities, sun damage, vascular lesions, and overall skin rejuvenation. It is a non-invasive procedure that can help improve the appearance and texture of the skin, leaving it looking clear, more even toned, and youthful.

What to Expect

Lumecca improves the appearance of:

  • Age spots (red/brown pigmentation)
  • Vascular lesions such as facial telangiectasias and poikiloderma
  • Diffused redness
  • Rosacea
  • Sun damage
  • Angiomas

During treatment there will be a bright flash of light from Lumecca (IPL), and a sensation on your skin that feels like a light snap from an elastic band. Redness and slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subside within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterwards, the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone.

Afte treating vascular lesions you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.

Lumecca can be used on all areas of the body. The most common areas of treatment are zones that are regularly exposed to the sun. This often includes the face, neck, decolletage, legs, hands and arms.

An improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session. Multiple sessions are often recommended to achieve optimal results, and these are usually spaced several weeks apart. Treatment regime depends on the severity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage) and energy settings.

How it Works

During a Lumecca treatment, a handheld device emits intense pulses of light onto the skin’s surface. The light energy targets specific chromophores, such as melanin (responsible for pigmentation) or hemoglobin (found in blood vessels), without causing damage to the surrounding tissues. This targeted approach allows for precise treatment of various skin concerns.

How to Prepare

  • The intended treatment area should not be exposed to direct sun exposure or a tanning booth 4 weeks prior to or immediately after treatment. This helps ensure that the skin is in its most natural state and reduces the risk of complications, such as post-treatment hyperpigmentation.
  • Refrain from applying any self-tanner in the area that will be treated 2 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Before and after laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying sun block (SPF 30 or above).
  • If you have a history of herpes simplex virus and are scheduled for laser treatment, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed.
  • Schedule a complimentary consultation with one of our aesthetic providers to see if you are a candidate.
